My dh just bought a laptop from a coworker. How do you get it so it has wireless internet on it? Do you have to buy them that way, or is it something I can add to it now? I'm kinda clueless on wireless internet, so fill me in! How does it all work?

You can buy a WIFI card that you stick in on the side. Depending on the brand, I think it was around $50-70. There are three major brands: Netgear, Linksys, D-Link. How old is the computer?
